Arkom Doungchawna: a Thai contemporary artist with an oeuvre of abstract and impressionist oils, acrylics, pastels and mixed techniques. Born on 12 February 1957 in Bangkok, Thailand, to a family of twelve. Driving his family crazy by turning every single ordinary object into a piece of art, the path of his future was obvious. Graduated as a B.F.A. (Painting), Silpakorn University in 1982. After having spent more than seven years abroad living in New York City and Sierra Leone, West Africa with frequent travel to other places in Africa, Asia, Europe and the USA, he now resides, works and exhibits his art in Bangkok again. Traveling and living abroad has provided him artistically enriching opportunities while working in unfamiliar cultural, social and natural environments. Because of the artist’s experiences abroad, his work and the artist continued to evolve together resulting in unique artwork which is all about showcasing the abstract beauty of all of our differences, reflecting the relationship of the known with the unknown and bringing people together.
